The past of the Mount is shining and our spotlight is on...
Gregory Mullenholz, Eric Bethel, and Monica Bates
A group of faculty and students from the School of Education and Human Services travelled to the U.S. Department of Education. Alumni Gregory Mullenholz hosted the visit for the Mount group. He is one of the 2011 Washington Teaching Ambassador Fellow. In this fellowship, he was able to gain insight into the problems in the education system and the policies that President Obama is trying to put into place for reform. He introduced the group by giving us an overview on the U.S. Department of Education and its relationship with the states. He also helped to lead a discussion and group activity on the document The Respect Project: Envisioning a Teaching Profession in the 21st Century. It was an empowering conversation for the group! The group was then introduced to Mount alumni Eric Bethel '02. He is currently working in the D.C. public school systems. He talked to the group about the IMPACT assessment evaluation for teachers. He is one of the master teachers who observes other teachers in the D.C. public school system and provides them with constructive and detailed feedback. The group also met Monica Bates who was a communication and sociology major at the Mount. She works in the Information Resource Center at the U.S. Department of Education. She shared the various materials that are available to the group. You may follow him on Twitter with the handle @mullenholzii.
